Circus Starr - Who we are |
|
|
Founded 20 years ago, Circus Starr not only provides the best in Big Top entertainment for all the family - it is the very heart of circus, pumping a lifeline of urgently needed money into community based charities throughout the country.Circus Starr has raised funds for local charities caring for a wide range of people with an equally wide range of requirements demanding specialist equipment or care that can only be provided through the generosity of individual donation. The money is vital to the small and often intensely personal fund raising organisations, which rarely attract attention outside their own local community. More than 500,000 tickets for the show have also been donated to groups caring for the needy and underprivileged - a positive expression of the strong bond between the international family of circus and communities and audiences it travels to serve. Circus Starr also made a major contribution to BBC Television’s Children in Need on-the-night-record fund raising of £17million in 2004. The Circus Starr Big Top was erected (with only centimetres to spare) behind the main studios of BBC’s Northern Ireland Belfast studios as the focal point of the national region’s appeal. Throughout the night of live television transmission, The Julio Troupe of Bulgaria trained, encouraged and manhandled local and national celebrities – including violinist Vanessa Mae and super-model Caprice through a series of circus performance challenges. Widely acclaimed as the country's favourite family circus - the magnificent blue & yellow bigtop of Circus Starr appears in more than 70 towns each year bringing a magical mix of top-flight acrobatics, breathtaking balancing and side splitting comedy to delight audiences of all ages throughout the length and breadth of the nation. But when the show moves on it leaves more than just a lingering memory - it brings hope and financial aid to the hard working neighbourhood charities to enable them to care for those who need it most. A cavalcade of international circus artistes from Russia, South America, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Mongolia, France, Ireland, Britain and China have delighted our audiences through the years. By supporting Circus Starr you not only ensure the future of a very special & precious entertainment element of British heritage you also join us in helping to provide local charitable organizations with the means to create better quality of life for those in their care. Our work continues throughout the year. In the winter months a special Circus Starr Stage Theatre Show brings thrills and laughter to communities halls throughout England, Scotland and Wales.Circus Starr - The Circus with a Purpose |
